Medium-sized Vessel Vasculitis NAMES AND DEFINITIONS FOR MEDIUM VESSEL VASCULITIS
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Arteritis involving large, medium-sized, and small arteries, and associated with mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome. Coronary arteries are often involved. Aorta and veins may be involved. Usually occurs in children. FIGURE 2-5 The medium-sized vasculitides are confined to arteries by the definitions of the Chapel Hill Nomenclature System [3,6]. By this approach the presence of evidence for involvement of vessels smaller than arteries (ie, capillaries, venules, arterioles), such as glomerulonephritis, purpura, or pulmonary hemorrhage, would point away from these diseases and toward one of the small vessel vasculitides. Both polyarteritis nodosa and Kawasaki disease cause acute necrotizing arteritis that may be complicated by thrombosis and hemorrhage. The presence of mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome distinguishes Kawasaki disease from polyarteritis nodosa.

Diagnosis and evaluation of vasculitis.
Vasculitis is inflammation of a vessel wall. The systemic and a major break was made in the 1990s with the 1990 American College of Rheumatology criteria (ACR 1990 vasculitides represent a highly heterogeneous group of clinicopathological entities. Vasculitis has many causes, criteria); and the elaboration of a uniform terminology for naming, defining, classifying and diagnosing vascualthough i...
متن کاملPhylogenetic definitions in the pre-PhyloCode era; implications for naming clades under the PhyloCode
The last twenty years of work on phylogenetic nomenclature have given rise to many names and definitions that are now considered suboptimal. in formulating permanent definitions under the PhyloCode when it is implemented, it will be necessary to evaluate the corpus of existing names and make judgements about which to establish and which to discard. This is not straightforward, because early def...
متن کاملNodes, branches, and phylogenetic definitions.
Adopting the perspective of graph theory, Martin et al. (2010) described two kinds of phylogenetic trees, which they termed node-based and stem-or branch-based, that differ with respect to the biological interpretations of their component nodes and branches. After establishing equivalency between the two different kinds of trees in terms of encoded information regarding taxa and their phylogene...
متن کاملObol: Integrating Language and Meaning in Bio-Ontologies
Ontologies are intended to capture and formalize a domain of knowledge. The ontologies comprising the Open Biological Ontologies (OBO) project, which includes the Gene Ontology (GO), are formalizations of various domains of biological knowledge. Ontologies within OBO typically lack computable definitions that serve to differentiate a term from other similar terms. The computer is unable to dete...
متن کاملThe Definitions of Species and Clade Names: A Reply to Ghiselin
Ghiselin (1993) has criticized my proposal (de Queiroz 1992) that phylogenetic definitions of taxon names (de Queiroz and Gauthier 1990) provide a means of reconciling the position that taxa are individuals (composite wholes) with the traditional method of defining taxon names in terms of necessary and sufficient properties (intensional definitions), which implies that taxa are classes. As Ghis...
